DISCOVER RIICHI

A game of reading, tempo, and risk

Riichi mahjong is the four-player Japanese variant of mahjong. Every hand combines efficiency, value, defense, and reading visible information.

What makes riichi unique

You build a complete hand while watching the kawa, calls, and tempo of three opponents. Declaring riichi increases pressure and potential value, but it also locks your choices for the rest of the hand.

  • Yaku define the patterns that make a hand eligible to win.
  • Han, fu, and limits determine the result’s value.
  • Furiten imposes precise discipline on waits and discards.

Start without memorizing everything

Start with turn order, hand structure, and a few common yaku. Guides and the glossary remain available as you progress, explaining terms without interrupting practice.
