Five days confirmed in Kunming
The European Mahjong Association calendar lists the eighth World Mahjong Championship from Sunday, October 18, through Thursday, October 22, 2026. The entry classifies it as MCR and places it at the Empark Grand Hotel in Kunming, Yunnan, China.
An MCR event separate from the WRC
MCR uses a 144-tile set that includes flowers and seasons, with a catalogue of 81 scoring patterns. Riichi uses a 136-tile set and scoring based on yaku, han, and fu. The WMC in Kunming and the 2028 WRC in New York therefore belong to different circuits and rulesets.
