Scoring: recap
Riichi scoring recap: how han and fu combine into points, dealer versus non-dealer payments, tsumo and ron splits, and the mangan to yakuman limits.
The principle
Ordinary scoring rests on han and fu. A hand first needs a yaku, then its han add yaku, dora and uradora. The Tenhou profile taught here adds one red five per suit; WRC 2025 uses none. Genuine yakuman follow a separate scale.
Rule and example
Fu start at 20, then add closed ron, non-pinfu tsumo, kanchan, penchan or tanki waits, value pairs, triplets and kan. Pinfu is 20 fu on tsumo and 30 on ron; chiitoitsu is 25 fu. An open ron that would remain at 20 fu is raised to 30, and other totals round up to the next ten.
What changes
Points come from base points equal to fu times 2 to the power of (2 plus han). A non-dealer (ko) ron pays four times the base and a dealer (oya) ron six times; on tsumo a ko collects the base from each opponent and double from the oya, while an oya collects double from all three. Every payment is rounded up to the nearest 100.
Mistake to avoid
Under Tenhou, 4 han 30 fu remains 7,700 on a non-dealer ron and 13 han or more becomes kazoe yakuman. WRC 2025 applies kiriage at 4 han 30 fu and 3 han 60 fu, then calls its 13-han tier yonbaiman. In both profiles, each honba adds 300 on ron or 100 per opponent on tsumo.
